1. According to the raw materials of yarn:
(1) Pure spinning
Pure spinning is yarn spun from a fibrous material, such as cotton yarn, wool yarn, linen yarn, and silk spinning yarn. This type of yarn is suitable for making pure textiles.
(2) Blended yarn
Blended yarn is a yarn spun from two or more fibers, such as polyester and cotton blended yarn, wool and viscose blended yarn, etc. This type of yarn is used for fabrics that highlight the advantages of both fibers.
2. Subdivided according to yarn coarseness:
(1) Coarse special yarn
Coarse yarn refers to yarn of 32 or more (18 inch and below). This type of yarn is suitable for thick fabrics such as tweed, coarse plain cloth, etc.
(2) Medium and special yarn
Medium yarn refers to 21~32 special (19~28 inch count of inch) yarn. This type of yarn is suitable for medium-thick fabrics, such as medium flat cloth, gabardine, khaki, etc.
(3) Fine special yarn
Fine special yarn refers to 11~20 special (29~54 inch count in the imperial system) yarn. This type of yarn is suitable for thin fabrics such as muslin, poplin, etc.
(4) Extra-fine special yarn
Extra-fine yarn refers to yarn of 10 and below (58 inch and above in the imperial system). This type of yarn is suitable for high-end fine fabrics, such as high-count shirts, worsted close-fitting cardigans, etc.
3. According to the spinning system:
(1) Worsted yarn
Worsted yarn, also known as combed yarn, refers to yarn spun through the combing process, including combed cotton yarn and combed wool yarn. The fibers in the yarn have high parallel straightness, uniform and smooth strips, but the cost is higher and the yarn count is higher. Combed yarn is mainly used as a raw material for high-end fabrics and knitwear, such as fine spinning, gabardine, tweed, woolen sweaters, etc.
(2) Woollen yarn
Woolen yarn, also known as carded wool yarn or carded cotton yarn, refers to the yarn that is combed according to the general spinning system and spun without combing process. The content of short fibers in woollen yarn is more, the parallel straightness of the fibers is poor, the structure is loose, the hair is more, the yarn count is low, and the quality is poor. This kind of yarn is mostly used as a raw material for general fabrics and knitwear, such as woolen woolen fabrics, cotton fabrics above medium and special levels, etc.
(3) Waste spinning
Waste spinning refers to yarn spun from textile scraps (waste cotton) or mixed with low-grade raw materials. The yarn is of poor quality, soft, uneven drying, containing many impurities, and poor color, and is generally only used to weave low-grade fabrics such as cotton blankets, thick flannel cloths and packaging cloths.
4. According to the spinning method:
(1) Ring yarn
Ring yarn refers to the yarn made by twisting on the ring spinning frame using the traditional spinning method. The fibers in the yarn are wound inside and outside, and the yarn structure is compact and the strength is high, but the production efficiency is limited because it relies on a set of mechanisms to complete the twisting and winding work at the same time. These yarns are versatile and can be used in a wide range of fabrics, braided fabrics, and rope belts.
(2) Free yarn ending
Free end yarn refers to the condensation and twisting of fibers into yarn in the high-speed rotating spinning cup flow field or in the electrostatic field, and the twisting and winding of the yarn are completed by different parts, so the efficiency is high and the cost is low.
(3) Airflow yarn
Airflow yarn, also known as rotor spinning, uses airflow to condense and twist fibers in a high-speed rotating spinning cup to output yarn. The yarn structure is fluffier than that of ring spindle yarn, wear-resistant, uniform drying, and brighter dyeing, but the strength is lower. This type of yarn is mainly used in woven fabrics such as bulky and thick plain cloth, flannel with a good feel and knitted fabrics.
(4) Electrostatic yarn
Electrostatic yarn is a yarn made by using the electrostatic field to condense and twist the fibers. The yarn structure is similar to that of airflow yarn, and the use is also similar to that of airflow yarn.
(5) Vortex yarn
Vortex yarn is a yarn spun with a fixed vortex spinning tube instead of a high-speed rotating spinning cup. There are more curved fibers on the yarn, low strength, and poor uniformity of strip drying, but the dyeing and wear resistance are better. This type of yarn is mostly used in fleece fabrics, such as fleece, sportswear, etc.
(6) Dust cage yarn
Dust cage yarn, also known as friction spinning, is a yarn that uses a pair of dust cages to coagulate and twist the fibers. The yarn is a layered structure, with a large twist and a hard feel at the core, and a small twist and a soft feel on the outer layer. This type of yarn is mainly used in industrial textiles, decorative fabrics, and can also be used on outerwear (e.g. workwear, protective clothing).
(7) Non-free end yarn
Non-free yarn is another yarn spinning method different from free yarn, that is, in the process of twisting the fiber, the two ends of the fiber strip are in a gripping state, not the free end. This new type of yarn includes self-twisted yarn, air-jet yarn and core spun yarn.
(8) Self-twisting yarn
Self-twisting yarn is a kind of new type of yarn at the non-free end, which is twisted to two yarn strips by a roller in reciprocating motion, and when the yarn strips are parallel to each other, they are twisted into yarn by the force of their untwisting and rotation. This yarn has uneven twist and is present in a yarn with or without twist sections, so the yarn strength is low. It is suitable for the production of wool yarn and chemical fiber yarn, and is more suitable for use in pattern fabrics and suede fabrics.
(9) Air-jet yarn
Air-jet yarn is a yarn spun by twisting the yarn sliver by twisting the high-speed jet vortex generated by compressed air, and then wrapping and twisting. The yarn structure is unique, the yarn core is almost untwisted, the outer fiber is randomly wrapped, the yarn is loose, the feel is rough, and the strength is low. These yarns can be used to process woven fabrics and knitted fabrics into men's and women's tops, shirts, sportswear and workwear.
(10) Core spun yarn
Core spun yarn is a kind of yarn spun with filament as the core and outer staple fiber, which has the advantages of both core filament and outer staple fiber, so that the yarn performance exceeds that of a single fiber. The commonly used yarn core filament yarn is polyester yarn, nylon yarn, spandex yarn, and the outer staple fiber is commonly used cotton, polyester/cotton, acrylic, wool, etc. Core spun yarn is mainly used as sewing thread, shirt fabric, rotten fabric and stretch fabric.
5. According to the use of yarn:
(1) Yarn for weaving
Woven yarn refers to the yarn used to process woven fabrics, which are divided into warp and weft. Warp yarn is used as a longitudinal yarn of fabric, which has the characteristics of large twist, high strength and good wear resistance, while weft yarn is used as a transverse yarn of fabric, which has the characteristics of small twist, low strength but softness.
(2) Yarn for knitting
Yarn for knitting is the yarn used in knitted fabrics. The yarn quality requirements are high, the twist is small, and the strength is moderate.
(3) Other yarns
Including sewing threads, embroidery threads, braided threads, miscellaneous threads, etc. Depending on the application, the requirements for these yarns are different.
